Little Journey is a digital eSupport platform designed to psychologically prepare, support and inform children and families before, during and after healthcare interactions - both those occurring as part of a clinical trial and within routine care.

Our mission is to support all children to better health. We believe that, through the provision of engaging, interactive and age-appropriate content, we can improve healthcare experiences and health outcomes for all.

The Little Journey smartphone app enables families to access information and support tailored to their child’s age, procedure type and hospital at a time and location convenient to them. Virtual tours using 360-degree images of the actual rooms families will visit explain what will happen and who children will meet during their hospital journey. Relaxation animations and therapeutic/distraction games further help to reduce anxiety and improve experiences. A parent information section includes articles, checklists and hospital guides – all of which can be configured by healthcare organisations via a web portal.

We ensure a truly patient-focused user experience by co-creating content, using a continuous feedback loop with children, families and key stakeholders.

Little Journey fundamentally believes in the power of familiarisation and desensitization through immersive play to facilitate individual coping strategy development, reducing peri-procedural anxiety and improving healthcare experiences for all.

I am an anaesthetic doctor and researcher by background. I am passionate about reducing distress and anxiety in children and their families before a healthcare procedure. I enjoy co-creation of healthcare interventions with families and utilising different research methodologies to evaluate them. I am an NHS Innovation Accelerator Fellow, NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur fellow and Trustee of Starlight Children’s Foundation striving to preserve childhood through serious illness.

I am currently finishing a PhD at University College London assessing how health technology and innovation can reduce anxiety before surgery to improve mental and physical outcomes, while also reducing adverse financial implications for healthcare organisations. For my PhD I am performing a research trial funded by the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit scheme, currently running in ten NHS hospitals.

I am a co-founder of Little Journey: a psychological preparation and support tool for children and their families before, during and after a healthcare procedure. Little Journey can be configured to local hospitals patient pathways and different procedures, as well as tailored to the users age. The platform has been designed to support families through research trials to enhance recruitment, retention and medication adherence. Little Journey is an award-winning intervention that has been rapidly adopted across the NHS and now spreading globally.
