Dr. Han Xiao is the Founder & CEO of Jina AI, a commercial opensource company based in Berlin. Since its founding in 2020, Jina AI has raised $38M from top investors, including GGV, Cannan, YUNQI, SAP.io. Jina AI is one of the most promising AI startups globally according to CBInsights 2022, 2021 and Forbes DACH 2020.

In 2018-2020, Dr. Han Xiao was leading a team on neural information retrieval at Tencent AI, laying down the next-gen search infrastructure for a China’s everyday app: Wechat. Han served in the Tencent Technical Advisory Council and Opensource Program Office, fostering the open-source and DevOps culture inside the company. Han is an AI open-source evangelist. His Fashion-MNIST and bert-as-service were listed as the most popular AI open-source projects in 2017&18 world-widely.

In 2019, Han served as a board member at LF AI Foundation. He is also the Founder & Chairman of the German-Chinese Association of AI.

Before joining Tencent, Han worked at Zalando in Berlin for 3.5y. He received his Ph.D. (2014) and M.Sc. (2009) in computer science from the Technical University of Munich in Germany. His Ph.D. is about adversarial and robust learning on Bayesian and non-parametric Bayesian methods.
