The music we listen to is a key piece of our identities and a way we connect with the people in our lives.

As a former NFL player, I have seen firsthand how powerful music is. Players use it to warm up before games or get hyped before a big drive. It is so significant, in fact, that the Boston Marathon has outlawed it for participants, considering it a performance-enhancing drug.

Music isn’t something we want to keep to ourselves - we want to share it with our friends and family. It’s a problem many businesses have failed to solve.

While YouTube and SoundCloud work for curation, there hasn’t been a go-to peer-to-peer music sharing platform. This leaves us texting screenshots of our favorite songs as a way to share them with friends.

It’s a problem I became passionate about solving. After retiring from the NFL, I became the Founder and CEO of EarBuds, an app that makes music social.

When I started EarBuds, it was important to me to build it right. We are “provider agnostic,” not limiting our users by partnering with one music provider over another or by using third-party platforms. We made it a priority to work with Apple Music and Spotify, which allows our users to listen across platforms.

The last thing we wanted was a user unable to tap into a favorite influencer’s playlist because the influencer uses Spotify and he or she uses Apple Music.

We recognize that the user’s expectations of what a platform should be capable of are high, taking our time with user experience, putting our users first and designing a platform that will cut it from both the social media and the music sharing sides.

EarBuds is more than music curation.

It is a way to share and listen to live streams of friends, family, and influencers, creating a complete social media experience around music.
