I’ve spent the last 15 years at the intersection of finance, software, and public policy.
I've founded and sold a software business; raised multiple rounds of venture funding; been a VP of Sales & People at a venture-backed fintech company; advised financial institutions and central banks on financial markets and regulatory issues; and held senior political appointments in the Obama and Biden Administrations.
I am Co-Founder and CEO of Crux -- a new platform that makes sustainable finance more efficient and interconnected. Before that, I served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary Janet Yellen at the U.S. Treasury Department where I was responsible for work related to digital assets, cybersecurity and technology, pandemic response, and the operational management of the 80,000+ person Department.
I like building, investing, and helping early stage companies working on novel solutions to intractable problems that directly impact lots of peoples' lives. I am most interested in marketplaces, SaaS, fintech, and climate. Angel investments include: AutoRabit, Carry1st, Elenas, Balance Homes, Nirvana, Reforge, Wayfinder, Parkade, Bedrock Energy, Joro, Amogy, Confirm, Renovate Robotics, Tubular, and Ezra.
My wife, Dr. Emily Watts, and I work with nonprofits with a particular focus on criminal justice, mental health, and the wellbeing of children.
