I am working on something new. I led Cohere Labs — a research lab that seeks to solve complex machine learning problems. Cohere labs supported frontier research and work on core problems in AI. I led a team of research scientists and engineers. Prior to Cohere Labs, I was a research scientist at Google Brain (now Deepmind).

My research has led to breakthroughs in modeling language and making large language models more efficient. I enjoy working on research problems where progress translates to reliable and extremely efficient machine learning in the real-world. I am also interested in the intersection between algorithm, software and hardware stacks.

I am on Kaggle's ML Advisory Research Board, on the World Economic Forum council on the Future of Artificial Intelligence and Data Frontiers. I was recognized as one of the most influential people in AI by Time Magazine, and so now I spend considerable time trying to lower expectations when I meet people for the first time.
