Nicholas BeattyFounder
Nicholas is one of the Founders of EV fleet and grid-scale battery storage specialist, Zenobē. Co-founded in 2017 by Nicholas, James Basden and Steven Meersman, the company has over the past 6 years increased its staff from three to over 240 full time employees with industry leading skills including electrical engineering, software development, computer sciences and financing.
Nicholas leads Zenobē’s financing activities including capital and debt raises and supports Steven with the continued development of the Fleet business. He also leads on the development of the business in Australia and New Zealand.
Prior to Zenobē, Nicholas spent 28 years in corporate finance advising a wide range of businesses and financial investors, assisting them to raise debt and equity capital and advising on mergers and acquisitions and listings in the UK and overseas. He was at Hambros Bank for 20 years in the UK and US leaving as a Director in the corporate finance department before joining BNP Paribas as Head of Corporate Finance for BNP Paribas UK between 1998 and 2006. Before starting Zenobē and after his financial career, Nicholas established and led the private financing of two solar operating companies where he was a director and developed the companies’ activities to include the deployment of LiFP batteries which were the first deployed on the UK grid to provide balancing and power services.
About Zenobē
Zenobē works with fleet operators including international bus operators and logistics firms to accelerate their switch to electric vehicles by offering a range of services including financing the vehicles and batteries, design, build and maintenance of charging infrastructure and using software to optimise their operation. Zenobē has around 25% market share of the UK EV bus sector and supports c.1000 electric vehicles globally. The company is now the largest owner and operator of electric buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Zenobē also design, build and operate grid-scale battery storage facilities across the UK to maximise the potential of excess renewables, to provide clean, secure and affordable power to the network. It has 430MW of battery storage in operation or under construction with another 1.2GW of projects in advanced development in the UK which equates to circa 20% market share forecast by 2026.
Zenobē operates in Europe and Australasia and is expanding into North America.
