Our goal is to eliminate preventable brain injury at birth, reduce the rate of unnecessary caesarean sections, and improve outcomes for both the mother and baby.
Fetal heart rate monitoring is used in 90% of labors to assess the baby's neurological health and has been associated with a 5x increase in C-section rates. Despite decades of use, it has not decreased fetal brain injury and has been associated with an adverse trend in overall C-section rates, resulting in extremely high maternal morbidity and mortality. Electroencephalogram (EEG), measuring brain waves via electrodes, is a more accurate and earlier indicator of the baby's neurological health. However the previously proven method is invasive, requiring a scalp electrode on the baby during labor, and is not feasible at scale or in varying fetal positions.
We have developed a new, non-invasive method & technology that harnesses the clinical promise of EEG without compromising the health of the mother or baby. Better monitoring will lead to better outcomes both for mother and child, in terms of avoiding brain injury during delivery and avoiding unnecessary C-sections and better matching C-sections or other interventions to clinically appropriate situations.
