Marty Neese United States - Menlo Park, California

Marty is deeply committed to addressing climate change. He has spent the last fifteen years in the clean energy industry working to make solar and now hydrogen the lowest cost, most economic and sustainable choice globally. He is a passionate advocate for the transition to a sustainable, circular economy with a goal of eliminating the concept of waste.

Marty is the CEO of Verdagy a green hydrogen electrolyzer company based in Moss Landing, California. Verdagy is seeking to fundamentally change the way industrial-scale hydrogen is produced in order to massively decarbonize the most difficult sectors of our global economy. Today almost all hydrogen is produced using a reforming process which creates 10X more CO2 than hydrogen. Verdagy is developing electrolyzer technology that will fundamentally change this equation and produce economically attractive green hydrogen at industrial-scale.

Marty is also the co-founder of Nuvosil A.S. an Oslo and Silicon Valley based company. The solar industry consumes almost half of the silicon raw materials used in the production of solar cells. Nuvosil is focused on innovating the remanufacturing of the silicon waste to valuable end-market industrial applications such as master alloys. Nuvosil has developed and pioneered a solid-state recycling process that is more than 90% greener than existing recycling and alloying processes. Pilot plant operations in Norway are demonstrating the technology and will be scaling commercially in 2023 onwards.

Marty previously held the position of chief operating officer of SunPower from 2008 to 2017. While at SunPower, he was responsible for leading the company’s research and development, supply chain, global manufacturing operations and sustainability efforts. SunPower is a purpose-driven company and an innovation pioneer, producing the world’s highest efficiency, most reliable, eco-friendly solar products. Marty led distributed operations across four continents, supplying over 30 countries with solar energy product solutions.

Marty serves on the Boards of Ballard, a PEM fuel cell company, the Ellen Macarthur Foundation USA Board of Trustees, Renu Robotics and Nuvosil. He is the 2017 recipient of the Hutchens Medal in recognition for his achievements and leadership in social responsibility and societal change. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and received his MBA from the University of Florida.
