Dr. Roots is the Co-Founder, President and Chief Medical Officer of Bend Health. She is also a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association for her contributions to the mental health field and an adjunct professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a graduate of Carleton College, received her M.D. from University of Sint Eustatius, and then completed her adult psychiatry residency at the University of Minnesota. She then went on to complete a fellowship in child/adolescent psychiatry, also at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Roots has practiced in a variety of settings including schools, community outreach programs, and medical/physical rehabilitation units. She has also worked as a physician utilization reviewer for several larger payors. She believes in a multidisciplinary treatment approach to mental health which takes into account the individual’s cultural, biological, psychological, and social needs. Her interest in a mutisystem approach to mental health led to her previous position as Chief Medical Officer of CogCubed focused on assessing and training cognitive processes through games used on new and innovative technologies. Her work has been featured at several national conferences, in addition to multiple journals and media sources including Clinical Psychiatry News, Boston Globe, Health 2.0, Modern Physician, Sirius XM, Health Professional Radio, Bustle and Pandora. She went on to join Teladoc as VP of Health Services. Her work at Teladoc helped her understand the need for innovation in the delivery of care for mental health. This lead to her previous position as Chief Medical Officer at Sanvello which focused on improving a person's mental health with the use of a spectrum of virtual services and collaboration with PCP's. She has also served as Chief Psychiatric Officer for PsychHub, leading the development of evidence based mental health education. Her success at multiple health tech start-up’s lead her to join as Co-Founder, President and Chief Medical Officer of Bend Health, a company focused on a scalable mental health and substance use solution for children, teens and their families.
