e-TRNL Energy is an Indian start-up company in the energy storage space. Founded by experienced technologists from IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee, e-TRNL Energy is working on a fundamental battery cell technology that is chemistry agnostic and can adopt all present Li-ion and future Na-ion chemistries. The technology offers battery cells with higher energy density and lower heating compared to its peers, with better pricing economics.

Apoorv ShaligramCo Founder
At Michigan State University, Apoorv Shaligram worked on project funded by A123 systems on Lithium ion battery electrode architecture to develop high-energy-density & high-power batteries. In this project, he worked on introducing 3D electrode architectures into the conventional thin film coated electrodes. These modifications greatly improved the power density of the electrodes without compromising their energy density.
After returning to India in 2011, Apoorv worked on synthesis of low-cost, high-power cathode materials for inexpensive batteries (patent granted) as well as on high voltage cathode materials for high energy density batteries, first as a personal project, then at IIT Bombay. At IIT Bombay and further at Ather Energy, Apoorv also worked on development of cell design parameters for polymer pack and cylindrical cells, combinations of raw materials and other cell components to achieve high efficiency cells, integration of different components to achieve high performance long life devices and testing of cells to understand and formulate means to predict cell behavior. As a part of this, Apoorv set up cell fabrication/testing labs and helped put together and was the team lead on these projects.
Apoorv has also worked on battery pack design, development, prototyping and analysis for small battery pack applications as a consultant to Mahindra Susten. In 2018, Apoorv started a start-up company (E-Vaahan) and in the initial days, worked on a retrofitting project to convert a Tata Nano 4W IC engine vehicle to an all electric drive. At E-Vaahan, Apoorv worked on design and development of a completely made-in-India electric motorcycle, including the development of the vehicle's mechanical design, Lithium-ion battery pack, next generation AC induction motors, electronic systems and overall vehicle integration.
Currently, Apoorv is leading e-TRNL Energy, a start-up in the EV battery space, and is working on development of a next generation battery cell to kickstart the EV revolution in India.
