Solarea Bio is a clinical-stage biotechnology company in Cambridge, MA developing plant-based microbial solutions to some of the world’s largest health problems. Solarea was founded in 2017 by a group of scientists and entrepreneurs eager to radically alter our understanding of the human microbiome and utilize its power to improve human health. The Solarea breakthrough came from the combined efforts of the company’s co-founders who established a link between the discovery of an untapped source of microorganisms with probiotic potential in healthy foods, and their applications in inflammatory processes including the gut-musculoskeletal axis. Using powerful genomic and bioinformatic tools, Solarea is mining its novel microbial strain collection to identify synergistic combinations of microbes and prebiotic plant fibers to develop solutions for patients suffering from inflammatory processes.

I’m a biotech entrepreneur trained as marine biologist. I describe myself as an “Environmental Microbial Biotechnologist” as I have studied microbial diversity- ecology (microbiome sciences) and its application for commercial solutions over the last 28 years including my Postgraduate studies and worked over the last 20 years in biotech startup companies.
I had the opportunity to work with bacteria, fungi, algae, cyanobacteria and archaea leading teams in bioprospecting for industrial enzymes, small molecule discovery, coalbed methane biostimulation, nutritional oils, sustainable protein from algae and agricultural solutions. I thrive and excel in startup environments and had the opportunity to be an early member and build the platforms at Diversa, Synthetic Genomics, Indigo Ag and to create Solarea Bio.
In 2017 I founded Solarea Bio with a group of entrepreneurs to radically and rapidly advance the discovery and development of microbial-based solutions for human health and nutrition.
