Dr. Mouen Khashab is a Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is the Director of Therapeutic Endoscopy in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Johns Hopkins. He also oversees the therapeutic group for the entire Johns Hopkins Enterprise. He is nationally and internationally known in the field of interventional endoscopy and has contributed immensely in recent years to the advancement of interventional endoscopy as a minimally invasive means to treat various gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary disorders. He is also a very busy researcher and has been very industrious in the field publishing more than 575 papers in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Khashab was awarded a Master Endoscopist recognition by the ASGE in 2022 (MASGE) for his numerous contributions to the field. He described the procedure titled G-POEM is 2013 and was able to disseminate and teach it all over the world. Other procedures that he expanded include POEM, POEM-F, Z-POEM, FTR among others.
Dr. Khashab is a highly-sought after speaker at national and international conferences and has participated in multiple live endoscopy conferences. His major interest is in new technology and medical devices and he directs the animal research laboratory at Hopkins, which is dedicated for these purposes. Dr. Khashab is involved with multiple gastrointestinal societies and has served on many committees including the Standard of Practice committee of The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), which is in charge of formulating practice guidelines for the practice of endoscopy. Dr. Khashab has also served as an associate editor for the journal Endoscopy, a premier journal in the field.
Dr Khashab moonlights as an entrepreneur. He recently founded “SOTLEIX Endoscopy”. The company is actively building a transformational technology for a scalable, cost-effective, and minimally invasive treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases. He previously co-founded “Solv Endotherapy” which is developing a foam technology for the treatment of complications of acute pancreatitis. He also co-founded “EndoAI” which has developed a software for the detection of bile duct cancer. He serves as a chief scientific advisor for “Origin Endoscopy” which has developed a proprietary hydrogel that assist in the management of gastrointestinal polyps and hemostasis.
