I grew up in Assam. Over a three-decade career I have had the opportunity to contribute to making markets work better for people. I have held leadership and governance positions in the private, public and nonprofit sectors.

My areas of interest include India’s “Next Half Billion”, entrepreneurship & impact investing, responsible tech and inclusive leadership.

I lead Omidyar Network India, an investment firm set up by the founder of eBay. Our purpose is to invest in bold entrepreneurs who help create a meaningful life for every Indian.

Previously, I worked at CRISIL for over two decades, and was its CEO for eight years. I led the company's transformation from India’s premier ratings agency to a diversified global analytical company. During my tenure as CEO, the company's market capitalization grew four-fold and revenues tripled.

My experience also includes serving on several company boards as an independent director including: Infosys, Tata AIA Life Insurance Company, and Nestle India. I also serve on the Board of Governors of my alma mater, IIM Ahmedabad, and am a “Distinguished Alumnus” of the institute.

I have served on several government, regulatory and policy committees and industry associations, such as:

- Reserve Bank of India (RBI): External Advisory Committee for Licensing of Payment Banks;
Committee on Comprehensive Financial Services for Small Businesses and Low Income Households

- Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI): Primary Market Advisory Committee; Corporate Bonds and Securitization Advisory Committee, Social Stock Exchange (working group and technical committee)

- NASSCOM: National Executive Council

- Postal Life Insurance (Government of India): Member of the Investment Board
