Phytonics, an Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, Baden-Württemberg based start-up, announced that it had raised an undisclosed amount of funding in a seed round led by EIT InnoEnergy, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds.
Founded by Raphael Schmager, Phytonics has developed a broadband, omnidirectional anti-reflective coating with excellent light trapping capabilities for use on solar modules. This unique coating inspired by plant surfaces can improve the yield of solar modules by up to ten percent compared to conventional anti-reflective coatings.
“At Phytonics we are committed to making a significant contribution to the switch to renewable energies through our innovative coating technology," said Schmager. "This new investment will help us continue to develop and commercialize our product so that more people can benefit from its improved yields."
The funding round was led by EIT InnoEnergy, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds. Additional investors include leading venture capital firms and angel investors from Germany and abroad. The funds raised will be used to expand the team and further develop Phytonics' technology.
